Below are three questions we've received about our Bright Green Dream school sustainability challenge. Please feel free to submit a new question or comment.
QUESTION: Is our contest submission idea limited to our classroom, or can we submit a plan for a different room, or even an entire “green school”?
You can submit a sustainable plan for any room in the school that you have identified as being inefficient, and you can expand that idea to as many rooms as you wish or the entire school. We’ve discovered that when you let kids come up with ideas, the sky is the limit, and we can all learn a thing or two. Our goal is to generate thought, challenge teachers and students to dream of a better future, and help channel those ideas into something great!
Ultimately, we are looking for great ideas that can be implemented as part of the prize. We welcome concepts that have not been tried. Maybe these inventive kids will break new ground! We hope to be surprised, and a little humbled, by what we see.
QUESTION: What is the preferred method of entry?
All submissions have to be uploaded to the “contest submission” area on the BGD website. Whether it is an essay, a photo, a drawing, a video, or any combination of methods is at the discretion of the submitter, but it must be submitted, electronically, via the web. For complete instructions on the types of acceptable entries, refer to the contest guidelines.
QUESTION: Do the concepts in the submission need to be completely original, or can we incorporate established energy-efficient strategies that have not been implemented in our school?
We are looking for great ideas developed by students and teachers who are truly evaluating their environment, and thinking about how it can be more efficient. This will certainly include both new and/or established green technologies, products, and behaviors. Even when the ideas use existing efficient options, there is plenty of opportunity to apply them in a unique way.
