a GREAT Earth Day activity for all the schools in the Greenovation Nation!

Earth Day is fast approaching, and we've got LOTS of different activities going on with Greenovation schools to demonstrate a commitment to the earth, energy conservation and sustainability. but we thought this could also be a great opportunity for the collective of greenovation schools, aka the Greenovation Nation, to participate as a community to demonstrate how EVERY action, no matter how small or how large, can make a difference, and that the collective action of a large group of people, eac… Continue

esp.

it's been a roller coaster ride the last two weeks, as we prepare to bring Greenovation to the nation. it started off at the FETC conference, when we first hear rumors of a large chunk of change headed toward the K-12 market. it sounded unfathomable at the time- i'm not aware of any time in history that such an amount of funding ($14 billion) was injected into the education market.

as the days moved on, we heard more about this funding. it turned out it was going to be focused on modernizing sc… Continue

1.

Susan (she’s my boss) got it. and surprisingly enough, lots of people at Lutron got it. here we have an energy-efficient lighting system, an extremely visible part of the classroom, and teachers searching for real-world ways to engage their students. why not use the lighting system as a way to teach fundamental skills, and turn this trendy idea of “green” into a dynamic experience for everyone involved. let’s give students and teachers ways to share and collaborate, learn new things, hear about… Continue

Hey Steve,

My name is Julie cronin. I teach at the Wheatlands Elementary School in Oswego, Illinois. Right now as I type, Mina is here causing trouble! Just kidding! She is awesome. She is working with the custodians to set up my ecologically friendly lighting system. I hear you're in China. Wow! The big news here in Illinois is our wonderful governor being arrested. Never a dull monent!

I just looked at the new lesson and really liked the power points. I was actually thinking about this curriculum this morning and wondering if there was a way to have the kids go to the web site and build circutis. Most kids know how to make a circuit with a battery, lightbulb and wire. I've seen web sites the have this kids build this type of circuit online. I thought it would be neat if they could build an online circuit with a dimmer switch. Along that same line could they actually build a circuit with a dimmer switch?
